Magnetic Island

Oh dear Maggie, what a beautiful Island!

I had the pleasure of snabbing the ferry from Townsville (home to the Power Puff Girls just FYI) over to the gorgeous Magnetic Island for a couple of blissful days in the sun between adventure filled, blissful days in the sun!

Hostel recommendation: ABSOLUTELY STAY AT BASE!

This is no sponsor, this is the place (and tbh I think 1 of only 2 hostels on the island) to be! Photos above are from the gorgeous little huts that you can stay in - of course I'm not talking luxurious Maldive-like huts, it's a hostel!

The thing to do on this island, is grab a bunch of buddies, hire a 4WD (or a barbie car if that's your thing) and get driving around the island hitting the east coast first, all the beautiful bays. Stop off for a sunbathe and a snorkel at some of the bays, Florence (and Radical if you can find it) is good for snorkelling I believe - but check at your hostel they'll know best!

Then you absolutely can't leave before doing The Forts walk where you'll see these gorgeous wild koalas nested up in the trees so keep an eye out, they're tough to spot! Or just look out for the other tourists walking by that are staring and pointing upwards!

And finally, drive over to West Point to grab that gorgeous sunset! Unfortunately we went for just the day car hire so had to get the car back by 6 but if you've got the time the view is beautiful!

Base hostel have the best staff of other travellers so they're always super friendly and have amazing events on every night, including the ever so famous Bingo! Honestly hilarious! They also give out a bunch of free drinks and prizes!

And for the rest of your time there, you can take refuge in the hammocks at the hostel or stretch out by the pool or the beach - it's right there!
