Best of Byron Bay

Byron Bay! What a town!

Let me set the scene of this amazing place!

Walking down Jonson street, past Woolys (supermarket) and a group of topless & tanned guys with hair past their shoulders come whizzing past you on skateboards. On the other side of the street there's a crowd of people bustling outside a few cafes (we'll come to them in a moment). You walk on and pass a collection of surfer, quirky, alternative clothes shops interspersed by a restaurant or juice bar or a couple more cafes. Along the street you also pass a few buskers playing all sorts of instruments; guitar, keyboard ... and your classic didgeridoo! Cross the street by Billabong (of course) and you see a some linen-wearing gals sat on the pavement hand crafting and selling jewelry and accessories. Passed them you'll find more incredible looking cafes and the occasional juice/froyo bar, and ultimately you'll come to a huge gust of wind that, if it doesn't throw you backwards in an attempt to shield your eyes from sand, will welcome you to the amazing Byron Bay Beach.

Byron Bay has the most hippy, chill, awesome vibe in Australia and I was lucky enough to be there almost 2 weeks.

The main things, I believe, there are to do in Byron Bay include;

  • Take a walk up to the famous lighthouse, passing the most Easternly Point of Australia for some stunning views and keep an eye out for a whale or two!

  • Join SeaKayak (or other companies) on a few hours out at sea to get up close and personal with the amazing wildlife! We unfortunately didn't see dolphins, but we were just meters away from a mother whale and her calf as well as kayaked over a fever of 50-60 stingrays! (Mini video over on my Insta if you fancy a look) Pretty cool!

  • Take a stab at fitting in with the surfers (or become a 'kook'*) with a surf lesson by The Pass

Definition 'Kook'A beginner or someone who is not very good at surfing. A try hard. Someone who surfs to try and look cool. Someone who does not follow the rules in the lineup, drops in etc.

  • Under NO circumstances can you leave Byron Bay without going for one of their intensely blogger-esque brunches! I'm talking all things Acai bowl/Avo-toast/Quinoa/Matcha latte plus a load of other healthy-sounding stuff I've never heard of before!

  • If you're in Byron Bay on the weekend, head for a walk through the town when it's dark for some incredible busking and new talent! Grab a few drinks at one of the bars with live music and soak up them vibes!

Byron Bay was such an awesome place, that every traveller/Australian I've ever spoken to has simply just loved it! For such a small town, it makes for the perfect getaway for the best vibes and still plenty to do!

What did you like best about Byron?
