The Breathtaking Views of NZ

Without a doubt one of my travel highlights was my sadly brief but incredible trip to the South Island of New Zealand.

Before ending my trip and returning to the UK, I decided to book a tour on the Wild Kiwi bus to just see what all the fuss was about. I mean just take a look below to see what the fuss is really all about. It was the most stunning and indescribably beautiful place I've ever visited and just looking at these photos again makes me dribble with longing to get my feet on Kiwi soil again!

Not only was the trip filled with incredible views and beauty of just the south bit of this country but I met some really wonderful people as well - and finally figured out the difference in between the Kiwi (NZ) & Australian accent and the US & Canadian one! Newsflash - they're COMPLETELY different!

So here's some of my tips and photos of some of the gorgeous views on the New Zealand South Island. However I would like to point out, that in this week-long tour we only visited a handful of places and I haven't even got to the North Island yet, so I'm sure there are many many more hidden beauties in this place. I'd love for anyone who knows of any to leave them in the comments for when I can someday get back here!

Akaroa

What a way to start my trip in New Zealand. I was lucky enough to stay with a family friend who took me on an amazing drive from Christchurch through the hills into and overlooking the stunning Akaroa.

Lake Matheson - unfortunately the weather was not playing ball with us this day so it's even more beautiful on the right day, just google it!

The Church of the Good Shepard overlooking Lake Tekapo - The lakes here in New Zealand (together with the mountains) are absolutely stunning and make for the most relaxing and surreal backdrops. This brilliant spot is so peaceful and mesmorising to just sit and watch the water.

Lone Tree of Lake Wanaka

Mount Cook (Aoraki - the tallest mountain in New Zealand)

Probably my favourite spot we visited - I could have stared at this view for hours! I think we all could have! The most gorgeous thing I've ever witnessed, it really made me fall in love with mountains again and has given me a spur of inspiration to head out and find more!

These photos are of our lovely walk from the secluded little hotel over to this gorgeous mountain! Due to the size of the town (I think it's like the hotel and 2 other buildings or something like that) and it's isolation, the light pollution is minimal and therefore the view of the stars at night are phenomenal. I believe there's even the possibility of seeing the Aurora Australis / Southern Lights - unfortunately we didn't see them but just lying on the tall grass (and the freezing cold - definitely wrap up, especially if you're going in their winter/autumn months), chatting with the group, staring up at a sea of lights was surreal!

Have you ever visited New Zealand? Where were your favourite spots for breathtaking views?

The North Island looks completely different to the South so you should definitely come back and experience it!
