Wonderful State of Victoria

Victoria is arguably one of the best states in Australia (I think they’re all fantastic) - though the weather isn’t as predictable and I was only there 2 weeks, it’s pretty incredible.

Melbourne
Of course, the amazing city of Melbourne - the almost capital of Australia! I’d say one of the most contemporary and quirky of the big cities. With areas like Hosier Lane and the array of funky architecture, Melbourne is definitely artsy and cool and the ideal city for young adults, which is why it’s a very popular place to live.

Top Spots in Melbourne;

Hosier Lane

Fitzroy

Look out for all the rooftop bars! Some goodens include;

  • Naked for Satan/Naked in The Sky
  • Madam Brussels
  • Rooftop Bar

St Kilda beach - if you don't have time to visit Luna Park, or would just prefer to chill out on the beach, make sure you stay until sunset! Pick up some fish & chips (not as good (and by good I mean greasy) as the British ones but still...) or park yourself in a good bar with a view of the pier and embrace the beautiful sunset!

Matthew Brenner’s Chocolate Cafe - THE BEST hot chocolate you'll ever taste, as well as many more chocolatey treats!

The Grampians

Luckily, one my best friends had lived in Melbourne the year previously so she could give me all the must dos while I was there. She sent me the link to this student group who run these great day trips to different places in Victoria.

So I popped onto a bus for a day tour to the beautiful Grampians and unfortunately the photos really don’t do them justice.

Great Ocean Road

Now this is definitely a must do - even if you just come to Victoria for a trip down Great Ocean Road - the most beautiful drive you’ll ever see and some gorgeous sites along the way! We took a day trip - but I’d definitely recommend staying over or hiring a van and doing your own road trip if you have the time. Have a look at Where’s Mollie’s blog post if you’re thinking of that - their trip looked awesome!

We were lucky enough to have beautiful and hot weather the day we visited and the sunshine gave stunning views over the 12 Apostles and the other gorgeous sites on the road!

Admittedly these were just some of the beautiful spots around Victoria that I was fortunate enough to visit. I've definitely heard good things about the wine down there too, so if you get the chance look up some of the Wine tours!

Have any of you visited any of these spots? Anything else in Victoria that I should have done/seen?

  1. How stunning! The great ocean road drive sounds right up my street, and I'd love to see that sunset! I'm gonna have a little pin frenzy of your Australia posts for when I go there in a few months :)
